Our customer focuses on image quality for its medical systems, and with products like the cardiovascular system, the mechanical stability of the frame is a critical factor. Frencken is experienced in engineering and producing large mechanical products to very tight tolerances, and the L-arm is an example where the expertise in precision welding, laser-cutting, conventional machining and fabrication all come together.
State-of-the-art production techniques
The L-arm is an important element in a cardiovascular system as it accurately positions the scanning equipment above the patient table. Much more than simply being an ultra-stable mechanical assembly, it must also meet stringent safety specifications. Frencken fully engineered the L-arm and produces it using the state-of-the-art laser cutting, conventional machining, precision welding and fabrication equipment available in the production facilities.
Controlling the manufacturing process
The customer chose Frencken for its experience and expertise in design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly as well as for its proven ability to accurately control the manufacturing process for larger assemblies built to very tight tolerances. Frencken also manages the supply chain via a network of partners who are able to meet the specified quality and cost requirements, and provides lifecycle support in the form of service and maintenance.
In addition to its functional and performance-related requirements, the L-arm also needs to be visually pleasing as it is visible in the treatment room. Philips Healthcare places importance on creating a comforting, low-stress environment for patients, so the aesthetic design of the L-arm is a consideration, which was complety fulfilled.
